Bringing Mindfulness to the Holiday Season
If possible, this
holiday season, try to put aside a portion of your holiday budget to support
local small businesses and makers. Local craft fairs are popping up virtually
all over the place, and bigger malls have started opening stores that showcase
local handmade items only.
shopping is not your jam, Instagram hashtags are a great way to narrow down and
find local makers in your area.
Slow Down & Create Memories
While gifting is
fun, it’s only one small part of the holiday season. Being with those closest
to us, and reaching out to those we are distanced from, is what is most
important. Re-live your old childhood memories and introduce your kids to them,
create and form new memories, and most importantly – take the time to truly
slow down and savour each other’s company.
Some easy ways to
be mindful, while still creating memories:
Take a walk after a large
Christmas brunch as a family
Read your favourite Christmas
book to the kids on Christmas eve – all piled into one large bed! Don’t forget
your matching Christmas jammies.
Decorate the tree together,
followed by hot chocolate and Christmas playlists in the background
Writing handwritten letters to
Santa, friends and family
Gives that Give Back
this holiday season to a local charity, in someone else’s name. You can choose
a charity near and dear to the recipient’s heart (for example local animal
shelter, food bank, veterans center, etc.). This is guaranteed to be a
touching, thoughtful gift and will also help those in need this holiday season.
