How to Unwind After a Long Day
20.12.10
The days are long, but the
years are short. Chances are you have heard this quote, but does it not ring
particularly true lately?
We
are finally in the home stretch of closing out 2020, but how do you get through
those long days, where every day feels so much like the last? Read
on for a few tips on how to unwind.
Write it Down
If
everything feels the same, day in and day out, why not keep a small notebook or
journal with a few prompt questions? This can serve as a resource to look back
to, see what made each day unique, and remind you that the years are short and
there is something worth celebrating every day.
- Name
one thing you accomplished today that your future self will thank you for.
- List
three things you are most looking forward to for tomorrow.
- What
was your favourite moment of today?
Check with Yourself
If
you are one of those people that crave alone time, be sure to create a bit of
space for yourself throughout the day to achieve this. This can mean going for
a walk alone at lunch, taking a long bath after the kids go to bed at night, or
even waking up early to enjoy the sunrise and a cup of coffee before the day
begins.
For
those who are truly energized by being around and talking to other people –
create little moments of checking in. This can mean a phone call or text to a
friend who lifts you, scheduling a zoom or facetime call with long-distance
support systems, or simply visiting a “busier” place (coffee shop, park,
farmers market) in peak times to get that energizing feeling back.
Make a List
What
brings us joy, soothes our soul and calms our minds is so unique to each of us.
Making a list of your favourite activities will ensure a quick and easy idea
for a refresher when you need it.
