Red Deer Summer Staycation

21.07.23

Tourism Red Deer recently launched a ‘Summer Staycation’ experience! In partnering with local restaurants, hotels and more - there are discounted offers to encourage locals to escape the day to day and get out and enjoy what the City has to offer.

You can check out more information here.

And with that announcement, we are excited to give you a little head start in planning the perfect Staycation. Read on below for a mini itinerary to get out of the house and exploring the City!

Day 1:

Grab your reusable shopping bag, step out of your Liberty Landing home and head down a short walk to the Gasoline Alley Farmers Market. Browse local produce, artisans and more.

Once you have worked up an appetite, visit the Market Kitchen, grab a craft beer, find a seat on the patio to enjoy the sunshine.

From there, hop in the car and drive out to Bower Ponds, the best spot for local recreation. The park is full of options: Nature walks, boat rentals, playgrounds, fishing dock, ice cream and more.

Once you’ve enjoyed some nature time, consider a visit to the local Sports Hall of Fame. If the great outdoors is still calling, this is the perfect opportunity to sneak in a round of golf at the local Golf & Country club.

Day 2:

Upon waking up in your rustic cabin at Discovery Wildlife Park (or local hotel, if that is more your jam), grab a cup of coffee and start planning out your day. Be sure to check out the wildlife park and all it has to offer!

Hungry? Hop in the car and check out any of the great local restaurants taking part in the Summer Staycation and discounted pricing.

After lunch, drive on out to the local U Pick yard, The Jungle Yard, and spend some time in the sun picking strawberries galore.

From there, drive out to the JKL Trail rides for a horseback experience just west of Sundre.
